How it works

What actually happens in the glass

Psyllium husk isn't digested — it's a mechanical fiber. Here's the four-step version.

01

Dry flake

A single flake of husk starts almost weightless — mostly indigestible plant fiber from the seed coat.

02

Meets water

Within seconds it starts pulling in liquid — up to 40 times its own weight.

03

Forms a gel

The absorbed water turns the flake into a soft, translucent gel called mucilage.

04

Moves through

That gel travels through the gut mostly intact, adding bulk and softness along the way.

This is a description of fiber mechanics, not a medical claim. Talk to your doctor before changing your fiber intake.

Plantago ovata field on one of our partner farms during harvest

Sourcing

From the best farms to your bag

We partner with a handful of long-established growers to source Plantago ovata from some of the best farms in the region, then clean, mill, and pack every batch here in Canada.

  1. Harvest

Hand-harvested in February and March, once the pods dry in the field.

  2. Threshing & dehusking

Seeds are threshed, then the husk is mechanically separated from the seed.

  3. Milling & sieving

Husk is milled to the mesh size ordered and sieved for consistency.

  4. Testing

Every batch is tested for purity, swell volume, and moisture before it's cleared to pack.

  5. Packing

Sealed into retail pouches or export bags and palletized for shipment.

"I switched from capsules to whole husk two years ago. My mornings got a lot less interesting, which is exactly what I wanted."

Meera T. — Retail customer, 2 years

"The powder disappears into my smoothie completely. No grit, no aftertaste — I actually look forward to it now."

James K. — Retail customer, husk powder

"We switched suppliers for the mesh consistency alone. Every 25kg bag performs the same in the mixer, batch after batch."

Dana R. — Head of Procurement, contract bakery

FAQ

Questions we get a lot

What's the difference between whole husk and powder?

Whole husk is the coarse flake as it comes off the sieve — it swells fastest and has the most texture. Powder is milled finer, so it blends invisibly into smoothies, batters, and gluten-free baking. Same fiber, different mesh.

How much water should I use?

Start with at least 240ml (8oz) of water per teaspoon of whole husk, and drink it right away — psyllium keeps absorbing water after it leaves the glass.

Does psyllium husk go bad?

Stored sealed and dry, husk keeps for about two years. Powder is more sensitive to moisture — reseal the bag after each use.

Is this gluten-free?

Yes. Psyllium husk is naturally gluten-free, though it's milled in a facility that also processes wheat-based products. Let us know if a wholesale order needs a dedicated allergen-free run.

Can you do private label?

Yes, on orders above our 500kg MOQ. We pack under your brand to your specification for mesh size, bag weight, and labeling.

Do you ship internationally?

We ship coast to coast across Canada, into the US, and to 30+ countries beyond. Wholesale shipments move from our Calgary warehouse, with export quotes available on request.
